Newt cashed it in. Saying that he was “Suspending the campaign but suspending the campaign does not mean suspending citizenship,” Newt Gingrich ended his 2012 bid for president. A shame. And we’re the poorer for it.
Newt Gingrich is a brilliant man; the problem is, he’s man. And that’s the problem with the rest of the candidates. They’re men … not ‘men’ as opposed to women, but ‘men’ as in ‘mankind.‘ Men are flawed. So are women. Every single one of the candidates has warts somewhere – we all do.
So now we’re down to two: two men who both want to be President of the United States. There’s Mitt Romney, and there’s Ron Paul.
According to the New York Times, with 962 delegates left, Mitt Romney’s got about 847 delegates in the bag, and Ron Paul has 80. A candidate needs 1144 delegates to win the nomination. Even if Ron Paul were to take the remaining delegates, he would only have 1,042. So …
Why doesn’t he quit? Why does Ron Paul hang in there when he hasn’t got a tinker’s chance in … well, you know – it rhymes with ‘well?’ Because, my fellow Americans, it’s not over yet and the GOP powers that be are a little edgy!
With primaries yet to go, and delegates yet to be pledged (or awarded), Ron Paul hangs in there. But why? If he can’t come up with the delegates, why hang in there?
First of all, he believes he’s the right man (warts and all) to be President of The United States. The amazing Dr. Paul is set to hold a rally for the Tea Party in Austin, he’s headed to California to hold a bunch of rallies there, and he’s working hard at fundraising.
But what’s it all for, if he doesn’t stand a chance? First of all, we haven’t even made it to the Convention yet, and who knows what will happen there. It isn’t over, so maybe he does stand a chance. After all, if Mr. Smith went to Washington, maybe Dr. Paul will, too – as President, that is. (He’s already been in the House for 12 terms.)
Ron Paul is a patriot! He’s a fighter! He has integrity, and he’s a man young people love to follow … and that’s good thing. He’s a man we need to listen to, consider, and pay attention to. He won’t shut up, he keeps questioning, he keeps hammering home the points that we need to be out of debt, we need to be responsible for our own actions, we need to take care of our own business, and not try to run the world!
Yup … with Gingrich out we’re down to two … Romney will get my vote, Ron Paul gets my respect.
Republicans’ school of thought:
° Republicans believe that economic growth is stimulated by free enterprise, by individual Americans choosing how and where to spend their money, as they see fit -
° Each and every individual has the greater ability to decide what is best for himself, essentially, what I work for is mine, and that American citizens should not be forced to provide income for those who 1) will not work, 2) are illegal aliens.
° Republicans believe government exists to serve its citizens … we do not exist to serve the Government. Since Republicans believe in small government, they work to cut taxes, believing that individuals should control their own financial lives, and governmental spending also.
° Republicans believe that it is the individuals right and obligation to take care of himself – it is not the responsibility of government.
° Traditionally, Republicans are for less power in Washington, and more power and authority for the individual States, which is what the Founding Fathers intended.
° Not only do I have the right to free speech, but I can think what I want, and I am not wrong for having the courage to speak against current attitudes and mores called Political Correctness, even if those current attitudes prevail through much of society.
° Regardless of society or environment, individuals are responsible for their own behaviors, and the judicial system should hold individuals responsible for their criminal activity and behavior.
° Republicans believe that the Second Amendment to the Constitution – the right to bear arms – absolutely, firmly, should be upheld, and that it is vital to our well-being as a nation. Republicans believe that PEOPLE kill people, not guns. (Think about it: a gun can’t kill anybody unless it’s attached to a human being with his finger on the trigger!)
So some of the basic differences boil down to:
° Do you want to make your own money and keep it, or do you want to make it and share it with the government so they can dole it out to others?
° Are you willing to share your hard-earned income to provide for illegal aliens?
° Are you willing to sacrifice your freedom so that the Government can take care of you (including forcing you to buy insurance)?
° Do you believe that the Government can do a better job of protecting you than you can, yourself? Are you willing to trust the Government so totally that you’ll forgo the right to own a gun?
° Are you willing to tailor your speech to only what the Government says is politically correct?
° Are you willing to excuse criminal activity because of 1) the way a criminal was raised, or 2) where he was raised?
Better spend some time really thinking about some of the Basic Differences.
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety
deserve neither liberty nor safety.” – Benjamin Franklin, 1759
